New Jersey Professor Charged With Sexually Assaulting Preteen Piano Students

Hackensack, N.J. - A piano teacher charged earlier this month of sexually assaulting two 8-year-old girls has been accused of assaulting five other girls while videotaping them.

Samuel S. Aster, 59, a professor at Manhattan College, was arrested June 5. At a bail hearing Tuesday, prosecutors accused him of assaulting five other girls - all between the ages of 8 and 13 - often during lessons at his home.

Aster was not required to enter a plea at the hearing and did not speak during the proceeding. He remained jailed Wednesday in lieu of $500,000 bond.

Prosecutor Ike Gavzy said Aster could be sentenced to more than 100 years if convicted on all 16 charges, which include one count of aggravated sexual assault with a child under age 13, eight counts of endangering the welfare of a child by videotaping children engaged in sexual acts, and seven counts of second-degree sexual assault.
