Beaches

Santa Monica State Beach

This popular beach is one of the broadest beaches in Southern California. With more than three miles of ocean frontage, it's good for swimming and surfing. There is a playground, gymnastic equipment, and basketball and volleyball courts.

The popular Santa Monica Pier, located here, offers a good spot for fishing, arcades, a carousel from the turn of the century, restaurants and gift shops.

Lifeguards are on duty year-round.

Venice City Beach

World-famous for its eclectic board-walk, this 238-acre beach has earned its reputation as an excellent place for people-watching. Amid roller skaters and bodybuilders, artisan booths offer leather goods, crafts, jewelry and sunglasses. Roller skates may be rented on Washington Street. Bicy-cles may be rented at several trailers along the beachfront. There's a play-ground for kids, a bike path, and good fishing from Venice Pier.

Rodondo State Beach

This 85-acre beach, popular with locals, is a favorite spot for fishing, surfing, swimming and volleyball. The South Bay Bicycle Trail runs along the beach as does a paved walking path. The Redondo Pier features restaurants, gift shops and concession stands. Excursion and fishing boats depart from here as well.
