America's New COINTELPRO
''Prevent the coalition of militant Black nationalist groups; prevent the rise of a 'messiah' who could unify and electrify, the militant Black nationalist movement; prevent militant Black nationalist groups and leaders from gaining respectability, by discrediting them; prevent the long-range growth of militant Black nationalist organizations.''The above goals were those of the notorious Counterintelligence Program of J. Edgar Hoover's F.B.I. As a result of the wicked aim of this program, called COINTELPRO, innocent Black men and women lost their lives and the progress of the Black nation has been stifled.
Not to be thrown off by the terms "militant and nationalist'' it needs to be understood that any Black man or woman who stood strong for the independence of Black people became a target of COINTELPRO, even Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The reality that the Black community must confront today is that COINTELPRO never died, despite claims by the United States government. The program has just assumed different names and takes different forms. The aim of the government still is to prevent all of the above said.
The attempt by the Jewish groups to ''prevent a coalition'' from being formed between Minister Farrakhan and mainstream Black leaders is an example of the new COINTELPRO. The voting by the U.S. Senate to condemn Minister Farrakhan and representatives of the Nation of Islam is an example of an effort to "prevent respectability'' for Minister Farrakhan or the Nation of Islam and, therefore, prevent longrange growth'' of the organization.
The targeting of prominent Black political leaders for sting operations is a form of the new COINTELPRO. And a by-product of the new COINTELPRO is the incarceration of new political prisoners.
One group organized a May 19 forum to support present day political prisoners and proclaimed that if Malcolm X were alive today, he'd be a political prisoner.
Attorney Joan Gibbs, of the New York-based Center for Constitutional Rights, defines a political prisoner As anyone indicted, convicted and bailed because of their political beliefs and/or activities associated with those beliefs.
America is now working feverishly to put their hands on Minister Louis Farrakhan, to put him behind bars and hopefully kill the thrust for Black liberation occurring as a result of his preaching. And then they plan to kill him.
They are working overtime, deploying entire units dedicated solely to investigate the Nation of islam. They tap Min. Farrakhan's phone and listen to his conversations. Just like the old COINTELPRO, government agents and agencies plant slanderous articles in the news media about the Minister to destroy his credibility.
And now that Min. Farrahkan is crossing the country speaking to Black men and planning a massive march of one million or more men on Washington, D.C. in l 995, the government is becoming more angry.
Minister Farrakhan is the leader of Black America, and the government knows it. They want him behind bars, not because he is a criminal, but because of his beliefs and activities associated with those beliefs that Black people are the chosen of God and must be free. If Malcolm X would be a political prisoner if he were alive, what is America planning for Min. Farrakhan, who is alive?
The Black family must rally around Min. Farrakhan and protect him. His is the last totally independent voice on the national scene that Black America has. He has stood strong for every Black leader that has come under attack. Now we must stand to protect Min. Farrakhan for the sake of our liberation.
