J-Harris Renews Call For Conscious Music

New York, NY (BlackNews.com) - "The recent whirlwind of critical attention facing the music industry, has resulted in the public's insistence on a change in the portrayal of women and the use of negative lyrics in music. This is just what we have been pushing for," says Joseph H. Fleming, President of Maschil Entertainment and founder of MCM.

Joseph H. Fleming, also known as the artist and performer J-Harris, defines his music and Movement as MCM, which means "We Make Music with a Conscious Message." "The MCM Movement encourages artists to be conscious about what messages are promoted through music and to be responsible for what they put out there."

J-Harris believes that the media and the public at large, has chosen to focus on this issue as a result of the Imus factor. "When we launched our MCM Movement last October and announced our mission to produce music that was not negative or degrading, there were very few media representatives in attendance at our press conference. I'm hopeful that this new found interest and attention will propel the Movement for conscious driven music to the forefront."

"We are encouraged that the music industry is examining how it can change the use of negative lyrics and the way women are portrayed in some of our most popular music," says the young music exec. "Maschil Entertainment supports the recommendations recently made by the Hip Hop Summit Action Network (HSAN) contained in its press release issue on April 23, 2007."

Leading by example as an entrepreneur and artist, J-Harris committed early to writing and singing conscious driven music. This is embodied in his second CD entitled Footprints...I'm Here (available on Appleitunes and CDBABY.com). "Every song I write has a message in it, whether it's about love, hope, self-empowerment or how to get through the struggle...the message is there..." remarked J-Harris.

J-Harris is a graduate of New York University's Graduate School of Music Business Program, has been a Product Manager and Marketing Specialist with SONY/BMG's Zomba Label Group, Consultant to Music World Entertainment, and has worked with Beyonce, Lauren Hill, Donnie McClurkin, Mary J Blige, De La Soul, Kelly Price, and Kenny Latimore and Chante Moore.

The first MCM Movement Concert took place last fall in New York City and played to an enthusiastic inter-generational crowd. It was hosted by Doug E. Fresh and Dr. Ben Chavis, President of the HSAN.
