Man Charged With Drugging,
Raping Japanese Tourist

A Los Angeles man was charged with allegedly drugging and raping a Japanese tourist he took out to dinner and then to his apartment where the attacked occurred.

Keven Hugh Lewis, 41, was charged with one count of forcible rape, rape by drugs and penetration by a foreign object.

He has been held in custody since Sunday, the day after the alleged attack, and Deputy District Attorney Barbara Block said she would recommend bail be set at $270,000.

Authorities said Lewis frequently travels to Japan on business and speaks Japanese. The woman told authorities that she met Lewis Saturday night when she became separated from her tour group.

She said they had dinner and drinks at a local restaurant and then he took her back to his condominium where he allegedly raped her. She said Lewis took her back to the area he had picked her up.

She returned to her hotel and then was taken to a hospital after her companions noticed she appeared disoriented and ill. She later went to a rape treatment center and has since returned to Japan, authorities said.
