San Francisco, CA (BlackNews.com) - Coming off two phenomenal YouTube clips that captured more than a million hits from her appearance at the Tavis Smiley "State of the Black Union Conference," noted San Francisco Bay Area psychologist, author, speaker and educator Dr. Julia Hare is named among Ebony magazine's 2008 "EBONY Power 150: the Most Influential Blacks in America" in its May issue (on newsstands now). She is recognized in the Education category.

The "EBONY Power 150" spectacular replaces for the first time the magazine's long-running annual selection of "The Most Influential Black Americans."

 

Calling its feature "The New Black Power: The Next Generation of Influential Leaders Takes Its Place at the Top," the Ebony editors recognized Dr. Hare's prominence as an influential in the category of "Education," singling out the National Executive Director of the Black Think Tank as one of only three persons given pictorial display and commentary out of ten individuals selected from such institutions as Harvard, Princeton, Wake Forest, Harvard Law School, Georgetown and Duke.

 

Dr. Hare's achievements in education go all the way back to when she was a young elementary school teacher in the District of Columbia, and won the Junior Chamber of Commerce's "Outstanding Young Educator Award" for all grade levels from kindergarten through high school for the entire city of the District of Columbia. Later she cofounded The Black Think Tank with her husband, Dr. Nathan Hare, who was the first person hired to coordinate a black studies program in the United States, and founding publisher of The Black Scholar.

 

Dr. Julia Hare has taught at Langston University, The District of Columbia Teacher's College, the University of San Francisco, and the City College of San Francisco. She also has been a radio talk show host for the late Gene Autry's Golden West Broadcasters (KSFO) and the ABC station (KGO) in San Francisco. As a prime innovator on issues affecting the Black Family, Dr. Hare has appeared on CNN, Politically Incorrect, Geraldo and C-Span. Additionally, she has been quoted in numerous national newspapers including The New York Times and The Washington Post.
