Thurgood Marshall, in 1965, became the first Black associate
justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, appointed by
President Lyndon B. Johnson. Marshall was born July 2, 1908, in
Baltimore. He graduated cum laude from Lincoln University in
Pennsylvania and Magna Cum Laude from Howard University Law
School. He served as Solicitor General of the United States for
two years, before becoming associate justice.
