The Morgan Dollar, also known as the cartwheel, is probably second only to Lincoln cents in the number of collectors attracted to the issue. Everyone has a silver dollar! The coin seems to evoke the romance of the Old West, saloons, the Comstock Lode, Kit Carson and Westward expansion of America.

These coins were authorized in 1878 even though silver dollars had not circulated for a number of years and there was absolutely no demand for them outside of the owners of the Western mines. Congress simply caved in to the demands of their Western benefactors.

Morgan Silver Dollars are widely collected in a variety of ways including a set by date, by Mintmark and as a complete set.
