What causes some white people to automatically put their arms or hand
around or on a Black persons shoulder when taking a picture? Is it a subtle form
of white supremacy or is it simply a blatant, conscious form of racism? In case you've
never noticed newspaper or magazine pictures with a white hand on a Black person's
shoulder I have included some in this section. Some will
ask the question, what difference does it make? (as in: what difference does a white Christ make?) My answer: to a conscious,
thinking Black American it makes a great deal of difference simply in what it signifies.
Have you ever seen a Black arm or hand around or on a white persons shoulder in a
main stream media photograph? Very rarely - James Bivens
