African Traditional Religions Including: Yoruba, Voodoo, JuJu, Haiti

Africa was once a continent where the people lived well, initially, a continent that created a tradition of wholeness, where African Traditional Religions (ATRs) embraced all aspects of life, the spiritual, the political, the social. Where music and art communicated with the Sacred.

Perhaps if we had turned back to ATRs after colonization ended a LOT of our present problems could have been avoided. I thusfar do not have sufficient evidence to back this up, but I have noticed that where African communities live according to African tradition, things are generally peaceful, but when African communities are living within a State structure which imitates the European model, together with its accompanying paraphernalia of courts, laws, prisons, offices, etc, we have continuous strife.

  • Dialogue With African Traditional Religion (ATR)
The Special synod of Bishops for Africa has come and gone. It remains for experts in various fields to explore how the teachings and decisions of the synod touch on their various disciplines. The Special Synod of Bishops for Africa, which Pope John Paul 11 proposed on the 6th of June 1989, took place in Rome from the 10th of April to 8th of May 1994. It took over five years to prepare.

  • Can Christianity Dialogue With African Traditional Religion
It is true that all human beings are rational and free. We are all subject to the same moods and aspirations. Joy and sadness, gaiety and melancholy, patience and anger, extroversion and introversion are found everywhere on our planet. We all want to be loved. We all dislike lies. Granted that physically there is little to choose between a Kikuyu and a Thai, subject as both are to the laws of nature; it is also admitted that anywhere in the world a human person can be cruel or kind, sinful or virtuous, selfish or generous, hard-hearted or hospitable. In short, we all fall under the species homo sapiens we are all human.

  • Haitians Hail the 'President of Voodoo'
In a dark, airless temple decorated with paper flags and moldering food, voodoo houngan Adnor Adely takes on the look of one possessed. His eyes shut tight. His shoulders hunch. His hands leap up as if to ward off danger, and his slim body begins to quiver.

  • The Loss Of African Traditional Religion In Contemporary Africa
The desecration of Africa in the past by the Western European powers seriously and adversely affected the traditional cultures of the indigenous African people to the extent that many traditional beliefs, social values, customs, and rituals were either totally destroyed or ignored.

  • Conversion "In African Traditional Religions"
The concept of conversion is as relevant to African indigenous religions as it is to many other religions of humankind. This may sound something of a surprise to some people. After all, the indigenous religions of Africa do not fall within the category of religions generally referred to as universal or missionary religions.

  • African Traditional Religion When we speak of Africa in this context, we refer to Africa south of the Sahara desert. The North belongs more to the Mediterranean world and the religion of Islam is well established in that part of Africa.

  • Triumphs of Rituals
The bedrock of African traditional religion is faith; faith based upon dogmatism. It is that kind of faith that does not call for any hard evidence.
