Oregon Family of Six Found Dead;

Police Believe Father Killed Wife, Kids, Self

McMINNVILLE, Ore. — Six members of an Oregon family were found shot to death in their home in what investigators say appeared to be a multiple murder-suicide.

Sheriff's deputies were in the vicinity on an unrelated incident Thursday night when neighbors approached them to express concern about the family, who had not been seen for about two weeks.

When they investigated, they spotted what appeared to be a body inside the house near McMinnville, located about 30 miles southwest of Portland, according to the district attorney's office. When they got into the house, they found five more bodies.

Dead were Robert Arlie Bryant, 37; his wife, Janet Ellen Bryant, 37; and their four children: Clayton, 15; Ethan, 12; Ashley, 10; and Alyssa, 9.

Evidence at the scene suggested that Robert Bryant, a self-employed landscaper, shot and killed his wife and children before shooting himself, the district attorney's office said. Investigators said Friday they did not know the motive behind the shootings.

The Bryant family moved to the McMinnville area, the center of Oregon wine-making, last summer
