International AIDS Conference Delegates Learn Virus Originated in Military-Pharmaceutical Labs
Vancouver, BC-Shocking new evidence presented at the XI International Conference on AIDS by a leading public health authority reveals that the AIDS virus (HIV-1) did not likely originate naturally from African green monkeys. Instead, a two year study by Harvard graduate and independent investigator Dr. Leonard Horowitz, concludes that the virus, and the associated worldwide epidemic, more likely evolved from early cancer virus vaccine experiments in which top military-pharmaceutical scientists infected monkeys with viral genes from other animals to produce an array of illnesses including leukemia, sarcoma, immune system suppression, general wasting, and death.
Such methods, routinely used by National Cancer Institute (NCI) researchers during a "Special Virus Cancer Program" in the late 1960s and early 1970s, aimed to develop cancer models for human vaccine trials, generated grave outbreak risks. Believed to be the first in-depth scientific exploration into the origin of the epidemic, Dr. Horowitz+s findings now challenge many leading AIDS researchers, particularly those who advanced the African green monkey theory in the first place.
"Evidence that these emerging viruses evolved naturally and then jumped species from monkey to man is minimal and circumstantial," Dr. Horowitz reported. "There is much compelling evidence to the contrary, and far more support for alternative explanations. It is far more likely the AIDS virus emerged from NCI-funded laboratories, and was accidentally transmitted via experimental vaccines that were administered virtually simultaneously in New York City and Central Africa during the early 1970s." This, the public health professional educator added, might best explain the occurrence of what Dr. Gerald Myers, chief of a special AIDS project of the U.S. Government+s Los Alamos Laboratory, called the "Big Bang"--the sudden and simultaneous emergence of numerous types of HIV around the world by 1975.
Dr. Horowitz reviewed more than 2,500 scientific reports and government documents, some obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, to assess dozens of viral vaccine studies conducted by a narrow network of military and pharmaceutical industry scientists. The complete investigation, documented in a 592-page book entitled Emerging Viruses: AIDS & Ebola, published by Tetrahedron, Inc., a nonprofit educational corporation, will be released to the general public through bookstores next week. "Emerging Viruses clearly explains and meticulously documents how, when, where, and why the viruses, that now threaten humanity+s survival, were made," Dr. Horowitz said. "For disbelievers, we+ve reprinted copies of the government contracts under which AIDS and Ebola-like viruses were developed. These even show how much the viral engineers were paid."
To further support his case, Dr. Horowitz+s text presents shocking testimonies by top monkey virus experts and vaccine analysts including the world+s leading vaccine developer, Dr. Maurice Hilleman, of the NIH and Merck, Sharp and Dohme. Hilleman acknowledged his role in importing contaminated green monkeys, from facilities in Central Africa, into the United States for research and vaccine production. "I brought [the] African greens in," Hilleman explained. "I didn+t know we were importing AIDS virus at the time."
Outraged AIDS activists, scientists, and public interest groups nationwide are calling for an independent congressional investigation into Dr. Horowitz+s published facts. Several authorities are now urging analyses of suspected vaccine lots believed to be held by the FDA, along with FDA reforms, including Dr. W. John Martin, former director of the Viral Oncology Branch of the FDA's Bureau of Biologics, the government+s principal agency in charge of testing human vaccines. Martin, who wrote the foreword to Dr. Horowitz+s book, stated "the issue of possible simian . . . virus contamination of live polio virus vaccines has been suppressed since 1972. . . . This basic flaw in the regulatory process must be addressed."
Barbara Loe-Fisher, President of the National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) concurs. "The vaccine manufacturers are being protected by outdated and highly ineffective FDA regulations," she said. "Until the government stops protecting drug companies, public health and safety will continue to suffer."
As a political remedy, Dr. Horowitz, Fisher and others, are building a coalition of consumers, health providers, and allied organizations to educate the public to act at the local, state, and federal levels to insure vaccine safety and the right to informed consent to any medical procedure involving risk. "People from all walks of life are getting involved now because they recognize the issue is not just AIDS," Dr. Horowitz said. "Trusted vaccines may be partly blamed for other diseases besides AIDS. The scientific community has been slow to recognize what now appears to be some obvious risks and better explanations for the AIDS pandemic."
